What survives of a map drawn in blood three centuries ago? Allan Quatermain, a weathered hunter in colonial Africa, agrees to lead an expedition searching for a missing brother and, incidentally, King Solomon's fabled mines. Shot on location in South Africa, this version of H. Rider Haggard's novel crosses deserts, wary tribes and a skull-lined temple with the straight-faced conviction of a storyteller who still believes in treasure maps. Old-fashioned adventure, travelling light and unashamed of it.
