A young German woman is losing her voice, her sleep and—her family insists—command of her own body; for the priests at her bedside, what hangs in the balance is her soul. This mock documentary revisits the notorious Anneliese Michel case through recorded exorcism sessions, interviews and archival material offered up as genuine. Made on modest means and with obvious affection for the form, it favours the whisper over the scream, letting crackling audio tape do most of the heavy lifting.
