War of the Worlds

Synopsis

What happens to a barely present father when the sky splits open? Ray Ferrier, a divorced New Jersey dockworker, has one weekend with a sullen teenage son and a small daughter he hardly knows. Then a storm with lightning and no rain hammers the street, the pavement cracks, and something enormous climbs out. Spielberg keeps the camera down at ground level, inside the stampede, and turns the escape into a long road of towering machines, ash and terrified crowds. Spectacle at full volume.
