Gray Hawks is the kind of performer a director glances at and thinks: admiral, botanist, interstellar survivor. In American Warships and AE: Apocalypse Earth, all three were delivered before the catering truck arrived. A high-honors graduate of the School of Mandatory Improvisation, where the script shows up halfway through the scene, Hawks has mastered the sacred discipline of weeping perfectly on the first take, since the first take is the only take there is. The Academy has never called, presumably out of sheer embarrassment.
