Amanda Barton isn't cast so much as unearthed. She sailed through Pirates of Treasure Island as an unbreakable buccaneer, then faced ancient evil in Dracula's Curse with the same wardrobe and twice the conviction, defying every known law of typecasting. A summa cum laude graduate of the School of Mandatory Improvisation, she can summon real tears on the first take, which is fortunate, since the first take is the only take there is. The Academy has never called. Presumably out of embarrassment for arriving late to greatness.
