Seoul, mid-wedding: the toasts stop when a nuclear test in the Middle East sends tremors burrowing underground toward Korea. The nation launches its first manned rocket to track the disturbance, and what surfaces is Yonggary, a colossal fire-breathing reptile with a taste for fuel and a talent for flattening the capital's miniature skyline. As the army empties its arsenal, a nosy young boy and his scientist uncle notice the creature responds to something nobody else has bothered to hear.
