The ice shelf splits open beneath Jack Hall's boots. The paleoclimatologist warns the UN that melting ice could trigger a new Ice Age; almost no one listens. Then hailstones the size of fists batter Tokyo, tornadoes tear through Los Angeles, and a wall of water swallows Manhattan. As a superstorm freezes the northern hemisphere, Jack's son Sam is stranded in New York with his friend Laura, and Jack sets out north on foot, hauling gear across a continent turning to ice.
