A rescue chopper banks over a highway that is tearing itself apart as Los Angeles comes down floor by floor. Ray, a veteran fire department pilot, abandons the chain of command for a private mission: crossing California with his ex-wife to reach their daughter, stranded in San Francisco as the San Andreas Fault unleashes quake after record-breaking quake. While a seismologist races to warn the country, the coastline becomes a shifting maze of collapsing towers, fires and rising water.
