Rio de Janeiro on the eve of Carnival, all floats and drumbeats: this is where a pampered blue macaw learns that the wild comes with no instructions. Stolen from the nest as a hatchling, Blu never learned to fly, living contentedly in Minnesota with his human friend Linda. Word of Jewel, the last female of his species, sends them south. Smugglers seize the birds and chain them together, and their escape turns rooftops, favelas and rainforest into one long, feathered scramble toward freedom.
