Central Park Zoo, after hours. Alex the lion headlines the show. Marty the zebra dreams of something wilder. One night, Marty bolts. Alex, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo follow. All four are caught and loaded onto a freighter bound for Africa. The crates never reach port. They wash up on a beach in Madagascar. No keepers. No steaks. No feeding times. A colony of lemurs welcomes them, and long-buried instincts begin to stir in the jungle.
