What happens when two young missionaries knock on the wrong door? Sister Barnes and Sister Paxton are working a quiet neighborhood when the courteous Mr. Reed invites them inside, out of the rain. There is tea, there is unusually well-read conversation about belief, and there is a front door that grows harder to reach. The theological debate slowly hardens into a test of faith conducted on his terms, and politeness turns out to be the least reassuring thing about him.
