Dunkirk beach, May 1940. Hundreds of thousands of British and French troops are pinned between the rising tide and the closing German advance, with too few ships to carry them home. Christopher Nolan braids three strands: the soldiers waiting on the sand, the civilian sailors crossing the Channel in small boats, and the RAF pilots flying with fuel to spare. A rescue told as sustained physical tension, where engines, water and silence do most of the talking, and every minute counts.
